New, Evelyn Jones, 90, passed away comfortably in her home at Grand Court of Tavares on September 14, 2014 under Cornerstone Hospice care. Born on May 4, 1924 in Eden, NC to William and Hester Pruitt Jones, she grew up in High Point, NC Here she met and married her husband, Earl James New. While he was serving with the Hump Pilots, she became part of the women known as "Rosie the Riveter" assembling ambulances in CA. After WWII, they moved to Apopka and worked together to start a new life, build a business and raise a family. Retirement marked a move to a farm in McRae, GA, where she lived for 18 years and was an active member of Faith Baptist Church. Evelyn returned to Apopka in 2004 to be close to her daughter and moved to Grand Court in 2013. Evelyn was a quiet, soft spoken Southern lady. Her kind, generous, loving spirit will be missed by all of those who knew and loved her. She is preceded by her husband Earl and survived by her daughter, Sherry and son-in-law, Dumas Wiercioch; grandson Dumas Michael and granddaughter-in-law Carrie,; great grandson Dumas and great granddaughter-in-law Peyton Menegat. In leu of flowers , please make a contribution to Cornerstone Hospice. Services will be held at Loomis Funeral Home located at 420 West Main Street in Apopka – 407-880-1007. Visitation will be between 6-8 PM on Thursday, September 18, 2014 followed by services at 11AM on Friday, September 19, 2014.
