He graduated from High School in 1939 and attended River Falls StateTeachers College earning a degree of Bachelor of Science where he majored in chemistry and math with a minor in physics. He played French Horn in the college band and was captain of the tennis team. He went home to put the wiring in his farm home for its first electricity.
Then in 1943, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp and was sent to Boca Raton, Florida, where his skill with guns led him to be the instructor. He was offered a four year appointment with West Point but turned it down to not serve four years. After Officer’s Training at Yale University, he was a Second Lt. and was asked to teach the course at Yale. He served as Communications Officer until 1946.
In 1947, he attended the University of Wisconsin and became an Electrical Engineer. He met and wed Audrey Jeanne Brown, a nursing student, in 1948 and later had two sons in Madison, Wisconsin, and a daughter when they moved to Iowa to work for Collins Radio Company. Rockwell purchased Collins Radio and they were transferred to Melbourne, Florida, where they later retired. They enjoyed traveling, gardening, church activities with the Methodist Church, and hunting, fishing, dining and playing cards with their family and many friends. It could be truly said of him that “parents are the pride of their children” from Proverbs 17:6.
