I am very sorry for your loss. One encouraging thought you might find comforting in this difficult time is found at John 5:28, 29. “The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.” God gives us this beautiful hope that he will soon resurrect our dead loved ones and we can see them again.

It is with great sadness that I pen these words. My memories go back to the 1960's when we arrived onto the 71st street neighboorhood and I was 4 years old. Across the street from us were the Gibbs. We were immediately welcomed in the the "family" and that has lasted over 50 years. And a true family it was. From the neighborhood events to hunting trips to Uncle Henry's to the awesome life lessons Don taught us while he was our scoutmaster to now, where the journey comes to a temporary end, I can only say how Blessed my life has been having been part of Don and Arlene's family. I will continue to travel to Florida, to visit as I have done these past 17 years, but will have an ache in my heart. It's hard to loose someone who you have loved and respected for your entire life, but yet we celebrate all the joy that came from the years we had. Don, you were truly a good and faithful servant. One who we all looked up to, and one who had nothing but a kind word to offer or a helpful hand. I am sad that we will never have the pleasure to greet and hug one another here again on earth but I smile knowing we "will" meet again in a place where love and pure happiness abound. Mr. Gibbs "Thank You" for everything you ever did for me and mostly "Thank You" for being in my life. I will cherish all the memories and all you taught us. Mrs, Gibbs, Donald, Cheryl, Michael, grandchildren, may the love of family and friends help you through this difficult time and rest assured your husband, father and grandfather is amongst the angels keeping a guiding eye on all of us. "Go Rest High On That Mountain" dear friend, for your work on earth is complete. We love you and miss you and we'll meet again.

I am sorry that it’s been 10 years since Don’s passing that I am writing this. Don was one of my father’s (Urban Bartel) best friends. Don and my father would carpool almost every day to work, and when I was old enough to drive, would join them when I needed a car. Don was a wonderful man full of advice, stories and humor that I remember well even though 40+ years have passed. I recall when Don moved to Florida and my father missing him. But they kept in touch which my father genuinely appreciated. Don was one of the very first people I called when my father passed in 2012. We had a wonderful conversation and shared a few memories.
My belated condolences to the family. Don was special. I was glad to know him and he was an important part of my early years.
