Edward Everett McMillin (85) passed away peacefully in his home in Apopka, Florida on May 8th, 2016. Ed was born in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania on December 7th, 1930, attended high school in Wampum PA, and married his high school sweetheart, Thelma Jackson, in 1951. When Ed was 25, he and Thelma made the big move to Chicago, Illinois. There he attended and graduated Moody Bible Institute. To further his studies, he moved to Canada, Kentucky where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and English from Pikeville College. He served as a national missionary for the Presbyterian Church for two years. Seeking a fresh start and warmer weather, he and his family moved to Fort Myers Florida where he accepted a job at Inter County Telephone Company. After Sprint acquired the company, Ed and Thelma moved to Apopka where he would work from 1981 until his retirement in 1994.
Ed and Thelma have been members of Rolling Hills Community Church since 1981 and actively involved. Ed taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and served as an elder. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Errol Estate Golf Club until 1995. Ed and Thelma enjoyed traveling in their camper to New England, Texas, The Ozarks, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and other various destinations.
Ed is survived by his wife of 65 years, Thelma McMillin, Apopka; Brother Roger McMillin, DuBois, PA. Five children Robert (Connie) McMillin, Orlando; Jay (Roberta Gail) McMillin, Fort Myers, FL; Beth (Kevin) McDonald, Woodstock, GA; Mark (Susan) McMillin, Fort Myers; and Laurel (Robert) Meadows, Fort Myers. Grandchildren Sarah (Hal) Lanier, Cumming, GA; Brian McDonald, Rome, GA; Jason (Jessica) McMillin, Chicago; Courtney (Jon) Ruhff, Longwood, FL; Rebekah (Benjamin) Seyler, Maitland, FL; Cameron McMillin, Paris Island, SC; Noel McMillin, Orlando; Jesse Meadows, Hanoi; Luke Meadows, Fort Myers. Great Grandchildren Rylee & Daizy McDonald; Rundle, Merritt, and London Lanier; Donovan and Hailey Ruhff; & J. Brixton McMillin.
Services will be held at Rolling Hills Community Church in Zellwood FL on Saturday May 14th 2016 at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Rolling Hills Community Church 4407 N Orange Blossom Trail, Zellwood FL 32798.
