WRIGHT, MYRNA L., 94, born May 15, 1927, in National City, CA; died Jan. 6, 2022, in Apopka, FL. She was a member of the Florida Living Church in Apopka.
She was born to William C. and Edith Moore Jensen, and her father was a singing evangelist. They moved every year from San Diego to Mt. Shasta, CA, until she was 10 years old. Her high school years were blessed when her Aunt Em provided the train fare to ride to CA. She spent her senior year with Aunt Em and Uncle Harold and graduated from Lynwood Academy in Lynwood, CA.
She attended college at Washington Missionary College (now Washington Adventist University) in Takoma Park, MD, and studied nursing. The school was affiliated with John Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, and it was there she met her future husband, Burton Wright, through friends, Tom and Betty Ashlock. After she finished college, they were married. Burton gave her a silver dollar to remind them of their marriage motto: In God We Trust!
They spent 17 years as missionaries in S. Africa, Malawi and Zimbabwe. Myrna served as teacher, nurse, and in children’s ministries while in Africa. She loved to tell children about Jesus. In 1976, they returned to the States to be closer to their children, who were attending college, and to attend their weddings
Myrna and Burton retired in Avon Park, FL, and spent 30 more happy years in service to their community. She enjoyed sharing her many talents: beautiful painted murals in the children’s department of their church and at Camp Kulaqua, passionately leading out in Vacation Bible Schools, and traveling to the Ukraine, Philippines, and Cuba to provide VBS and children’s ministries programs. Her mission in life was to lead children to Jesus.
Myrna always served her Savior and Redeemer with a caring, loving heart, and longed for His soon return to be reunited with her family and friends who she loved so dearly. She was an amazing wife, mother, sister, aunt, grammy, and friend to all she knew and loved.
She is survived by her husband of seventy years, Burton Wright; two sons: Jim Wright of Kingman, AZ, and Jon (Dawne) Wright of Battle Ground, WA; two daughters: Judy (Jim) Clarke of Orlando, FL, and Jeannie Bankston of Jupiter, FL; five grandchildren: Jared (Marlissa) Clarke, Julie Clarke, Jaime Wright, and Jordan Wright; and one great-granddaughter, Isabella Clarke. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Edith Jensen; and two brothers: Bob Jensen and Bill Jensen.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Wright and I had a special comnection since not only was ahe my beloved and adored Sabbath School teacher, but we shared the same unusual name, Myrna. She helped me appreciate my name during a time when i actually didn’t like my name. I know i wanted to be a SS teacher just like her some day.❤️😊 Thankful for her powerful positive influence in my life.
