Jacqueline Phelps Cason, age 87, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2022, in Apopka, FL with her daughter Michelle and grandson Cole by her side. Her struggle with Parkinson’s disease and dementia ended as the heavenly angels welcomed her home.
Jacky was born on April 12, 1934 in Forbes, North Dakota. She was the only child of George Thomas and Erma Marguerite Phelps and was raised on a farm. By the age of five, she had been to all 50 states due to her parents love for travel. Drought and hard economic times resulted in even more travel as they followed job opportunities. Jacky and her parents ultimately settled in Largo, FL near family and friends. Jacky graduated from Largo High School in 1952, and three years later from Tomlinson Vocational School of Cosmetology. She and her best friends obtained employment at the Carmichael Beauty Shop. After work, she loved to venture into town to dance the night away.
Jacky married Walter Warnock Cason on November 18, 1961. They raised three children (Tommy, Laure, and MiChelle) in a house that Walt built in Orlando, FL. They provided a strong Christian foundation for their children by joining Azalea Park Methodist Church. Jacky loved her church family, and served as Youth Coordinator for many years. Under her leadership, an amazingly strong youth department emerged. Later, she developed a young adult group and named it Foot Loose as in Foot Loose and Fancy Free. Her endless energy with both groups touched the lives of many in profound ways.
Jacky was an extremely dedicated mother who did anything to help her children achieve their dreams. She supported every club and sports program they joined. She’d seek and find whatever resources were needed for their success. She also used her creative talents to enhance her children’s lives. As an exquisite seamstress, she designed and made beautiful costumes. As an active participant in her children’s activities, she taught both them and their friends how to have fun and believe in themselves. She frequently told them “Everything in life is ‘figureoutable.’” Jacky’s support for her children continued into their adulthoods. She opened “Our Boutique” with her two daughters while simultaneously supporting her husband and son with Cason Construction.
Later in life, Jacky extended her talents to the creation of art. She studied under the accomplished artist Marco Bronzini. Jacky’s talent emerged quickly. She placed in art shows, and was commissioned by clients to create beloved pieces. In her final days she taught mosaic classes in her studio garage for a group of friends who shared her same passion for art.
Jacky is survived by her son Thomas Cason (Diane), daughter MiChelle Cason; grandchildren, Michael Cason (Dannielle), Brittany Berkowitz (Joe), Cole Allen-Cason, Camille Brown; great grandchildren, Ayden Cason, Kaleb Cason, Ethen Cason, Liam Berkowitz, Adeline Berkowitz.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Azalea Park United Methodist Church, 50 Willow Drive, Orlando FL 32807 on her behalf.

Jackie was loved by all that knew her. She was a huge part of Azalea Park United Methodist Church and a great friend of my Mom Marge Simmons. She always had a by smile and lit up the room when she walked in. I’m sure there is a huge welcoming party in Heaven with all her friends and family that passed before her. ❤️🙏

I have only fond memories of Jacky. For me, her contagious and infectious laugh was a hallmark characteristic…easy to distinguish in a crowd and most genuine…always a smile!!
Great memories of Azalea Park United Methodist Church, His Singers, Lake Junaluska, Appalachian trail hikes, Footloose group to name a few…thanks Jacky for leaving your fingerprint on so many young people, including me. Rest well.
