Omia Gene Mercer, age 83 of Winter Garden Florida passed away peacefully, Wednesday, November 9, 2022. She was the only child born to the late Clifton and Estelle Qualls on July 19, 1939, in Opp, Alabama.
She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1959. After graduating she started her career working in the citrus industry at Winter Garden CGA. She later moved on to be a Deli Specialist at Publix where she retired after over 20 years of service. She then worked as a lunchroom host at Lakeview Middle School until she decided to finally be retired on a full-time basis.
She was a very hard worker and loved to cook. When she was able one of her favorite things to do was a to cook a big southern Sunday meal and have all her daughters, son-in laws, and grandkids come over for lunch and spend the day with her. Her family meant the world to her, and she loved going on vacations, shopping or just going out to lunch with them. She loved to read, watch cooking shows and the Hallmark channel. Those who knew her well would say she had her own language as some of the sayings she would come up with were so hilarious that one of her granddaughters actually made a book of her sayings calling it Nanarisums.
She will be lovingly remembered by her four daughters, Robin Nault (husband Joe), Penny Durbin (husband Rodney), Tammy Keefer, and Kim Meeks (husband Scott). And will be dearly missed by her grandchildren: Jade, Jennica, Matthew, Madison (who preceded her in death), Emily and Hagen. Great Grandkids: Finnley, Loxley and Estella.
A celebration of her life will take place on December 2, 2022 at 11:00a.m. at Loomis Funeral Homes 420 West Main Street, Apopka, FL 32712.

So sorry to hear of Omia Genes passing. I worked with her at Publix many years ago. She was a sweet lady. This was after she had worked with my Mom at WGC. Her and Mom still stayed in touch and spoke often. Mom was truly saddened to hear of her passing. Sending our love and prayers to all the family.
