Ruth A. Phillip, 92, of Apopka, Florida, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2022. Ruth was born on September 21, 1930, to the late Josephine Charles and Evans Dalrymple in Roseau, Commonwealth of Dominica. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gerald Phillip. Ruth is survived by her children Derick (Serkalem) Phillip, Patricia Phillip, Marlene Phillip, Francis (Corrine) Phillip, Ermine (Peter) Phillip, and Annette Phillip, as well as 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her many loved ones and friends.
Affectionately known as Ma Phillip, Ruth excelled at everything she did due to her meticulous nature. As a result, she was loved, admired, and respected by all whom she encountered at Princess Margaret Hospital during her time as a switchboard operator. She had a passion for cooking, baking, and puzzle books, and she loved long walks where she could spend time in nature. She was a vibrant and caring soul who spent most of her life thinking about the well-being of others. Although she enjoyed moments of self-reflection/alone time, she was always surrounded by family and friends, where she felt the comfort and outpouring of love.
Ruth was known for her unwavering faith in God and enjoyed worshiping by praying and reading her bible. She was widowed at a young age and devoted her life to raising her family. She loved her family unconditionally and was known to pray for each family member by name. She loved us all, and we loved her, but God loved her so much more.
A celebration of life will take place on Friday, December 9, 2022. The viewing is from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Loomis Family Funeral Home, 420 West Main Street, Apopka, FL 32712.
The funeral service is at 1:30 PM at Annunciation Catholic Church, 1020 Montgomery Road, Altamonte Springs, FL 32714

My early remembrance of ‘Aunty’ Ruth goes way, way back to when I was about five years old. At that time the Phillip family lived on King’s Lane in Roseau, (before moving to Goodwill). My aunt and family were neighbors, living at the corner house, diagonal to theirs. To a greater extent, we were like family.
Aunty Ruth, to quote my late husband, was an angel on earth. Indeed, her quiet disposition, soft voice, and kind demeanor, in my estimation, qualified her for the title of angel. Many a person will attest to her profound words of advice to them, her acts of kindness. Her home at Goodwill was always an ‘open door’.
She has transitioned to the great beyond, lying in the arms of her Maker, who has welcomed her with the words, ‘Well done thou good and faithful servant’. A good and faithful servant she was. A woman of prayer, and strong faith, faithful to her Lord and her church community. A strong woman, a woman of substance, for it took a strong woman like Aunty Ruth to shepherd her family, single-handedly, after losing her husband at a very young age.
To those who are left to mourn, ‘weeping may last a while, but joy comes in the morning’. May your joy be in the pleasant memories you have of her, and the rich legacy she left behind, and will always be remembered for. May you walk in her footsteps, guided by our dear Lord.
May this kind lady, Ruth Phillip, Aunty Ruth, SLEEP PEACEFULLY.

Sending condolences to the entire family. Ma Phillip is a part of my village. I spent some of my best days at the home of Ma Phillip. My mother and Ma Phillip were friends and while my mom worked at PMH, I would spend the day with Ma Phillip and her family. Although I migrated from Dominica at a young age, I will always remember Ma Phillip. She was a gentle soul, who always welcomed me with open arms. She is now welcomed into heaven to be with her Lord and savior. Sleep in peace Ma Phillip, your memories will live on.

My condolences goes out to the Phillip family. Ma Phillip was a loving and kind soul. Growing up next door to the Phillip house in Dupine lane in Dominica, are great memories that I will cherish forever. She loved her children and her grandchildren very dearly, and she was always kind to me. My memory of her is standing at the kitchen door looking out at the her yard; at the chickens or the dogs. Although she will be missed by her family, she is now an Angelic being for the family who will always watch over you all. In ❤️ & 🕯️
