Gordon “David” Montgomery, 81, of Sorrento, FL, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 25, 2024.
He was born on November 9, 1942, to the late Gordon and Irene Montgomery in Sarasota, Florida.
David was also affectionately known as “Macon” by many who knew and loved him. He began a career as a heavy equipment operator early in life. He could run any piece of equipment but found his expertise as a grade tractor operator. He earned the well-deserved reputation as the best around. Even with that notoriety, he was more importantly known as a Christian man, husband, and father.
David loved the Lord, his family, bluegrass music, hunting, fishing, and his wife’s cooking. He was a quiet and reserved, true southern gentleman that enjoyed the outdoors.
He married the love of his life Betty (Baxley) Montgomery on September 3, 1960. They called Venice, F1 home and raised five children there.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Mildred Young, brothers, Howell Montgomery and Sanford Montgomery. He leaves behind wife Betty Montgomery, five children, Hinton Montgomery (Vikki), Marjorie Bryson, Charlie Montgomery (Lizsa), Wendy Montgomery (Robert), Amie Maxwell (Neil), seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. We will dearly miss him, until we meet again.
