Laurie Christina Gilbert of Apopka, Florida, passed away at age 41 on December 11, 2022. She was a devoted wife and mother to Scott and their daughter Julia.
Laurie was born on May 28, 1981. She graduated from UCF in 2003 with a BA in education and taught at various elementary school levels. She loved family, traveling, creative projects, and hobbies, and was committed to caring for her pets.
She was known for her quick wit, infectious laugh, beautiful smile, kindness, and compassionate spirit.
She is survived by her spouse, Robert Scott Gilbert, daughter; Julia Kate age four, parents; Gregory and Deborah Ratchman, brother; Jeremy Ratchman and partner Kelsey, and in-laws; Terry and Janet Gilbert and their son, Michael.
A Celebration of Life will be planned on or around the 17th of February, which would have been Laurie and Scott’s 10th wedding anniversary, to share memories with family and friends and honor her life.
This heritage started 67 years ago with Pastor Herbert F. Loomis, who founded the First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach, Florida, in 1934. In 1938 Francis E. Loomis, son of Pastor Herbert F. Loomis, received his license to practice Mortuary Science and in 1941 established Loomis Funeral Home of Winter Garden, FL.
