Christine Ann King

April 8, 1948 — March 2, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Christine “Chris” Ann King, who passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on March 2, 2025, in Apopka, FL. She was 76 years old.

Chris was born on April 8, 1948, in Rockford, IL to Edward and Lorna Setzke, both of whom preceded her in death, as did her brother Donald Mercaitis. Chris graduated from Rockford East High School in 1966 and went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, William J. King, and their two daughters, Cassie and Kalee King. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Thomas & Dawn King, and her nieces Kelly Mercaitis, Amber King, & Gillian Gutowski, as well as nephews Brian & David Mercaitis.

Chris was a passionate Chicago Cubs fan and loved spending time in the kitchen, cooking meals for her family and friends. Her love of life extended to traveling, spending time at the beach, and caring for animals. She shared many joyful moments with her husband, enjoyed shopping trips with her daughters, and filled her home with music, often singing and dancing to her favorite artists like Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt, and Jimmy Buffett. She also had a deep affection for her sweet pup, Milo, and her two rescued cats, Zoey and Ricky.

In honoring Chris’s wishes, no services will be held. All she would ask of everyone is to turn up the music and dance! She was truly the best, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved her.

Chris will be forever remembered for her warmth, her love for life, and the joy she brought to those around her. She will be dearly missed.
