Gerard Carroll Smithers, 95 of Apopka, FL passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
Born 11-19-1929 in Baltimore MD he was the son of Boyd Gleaves Smithers and Germaine Weiber.
He married Norma Anna Funk on November 27, in Baltimore MD. They were married for 47 years until her death in 1992.
He married Phyllis Marie Belt on October 1, 1993. They were married for 27 years until her death in 2020.
Affectionately known by his family as Speed and Pop Pop by most of his family and friends, he is survived by his daughters Jo A. Trapp (Mike) Apopka, FL. and Barbara S. Conroy (Grady) of Dunnellon, FL; four grandchildren, Michael G. Trapp and Krista M. Blakesley and Lauren M. Hennessey and Lindsey M Fraser; ten great grandchildren, Austin Blakesley, Mack Blakesley, Isabel Feliciano, Kaia Feliciano, Serenity Trapp, Michael Trapp, Camber Fraser, Mila Fraser, Benjamin Hennessey, Harper Hennessey; one sister, Ellen G. Spink.
Gerard served his country in the US Air Force for twenty years and retired in 1972 with the rank of MSgt. He worked as a Mail Carrier in the US Postal Service and retired from there in January 1992.
His daughters will remember him as a warm and loving father, always ready to play and spend time with them as children. He consistently gave support and encouraged them to go after their dreams and was always ready to listen and give guidance when asked. Life with him was an adventure and they lived enriched lives with him as their father. God and family were the most important things in his life. He will be missed every day, until we are reunited in heaven.
