James “Jim” C. Andrews, 88, of Apopka Florida passed away on February 10, 2021. Jim was born on February 28, 1932 in Amityville, New York to James C. Andrews Sr. and Evelyn Simon Andrews, both of whom predeceased him as well as his brother Richard Andrews.
As a young man seeking adventure, he proudly joined the U.S. Navy in 1950 where he served for four years. He traveled much of the world and served in the Korean War in defense of democracy and freedom. Separating from the Navy, he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1954 and served in the Air Police until becoming a recruiter and covering the Southern Minnesota and Wisconsin areas. He served one tour of duty in Vietnam in 1968 – 1969 and then returned to recruiting duty for two years. Jim’s greatest adventure of all was finding his wife, Arlyce, on a blind date. Jim and Arlyce were married in 1960 in Grand Forks, N.D.
After his retirement from the U.S. Air Force on August 1, 1971 he and his family moved to Apopka Florida. Jim then began a second career working as the general manager for Globe Security Company in the Orlando area until he decided to open his own security agency. Andrews Security Agency was later sold in 1998 at which time Jim retired again and enjoyed RV traveling, horses, woodworking, but most of all playing with his granddaughters. In his later years, he suffered the effects of war and was deemed 100% disabled. Jim was an inactive member of the VFW. He was a Lutheran all his life and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Apopka.
Jim is survived by his wife of 60 years, Arlyce, his two children; Elaine (Michael) Christensen, Powhatan Virginia and Jason Andrews, Apopka Florida; three granddaughters; Elizabeth Christensen, Allison (Preston Blair) Christensen, and Rachael (Jason) Horn, and one great-granddaughter; Riley Christensen
Interment at the Bushnell National Cemetery.
