Mary Josephine (Mary Jo) Goodwin 1919-1918
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Jo Goodwin, age 98, of Apopka, FL, who passed away on January 20, 2018 will be held at Loomis Funeral Home in Apopka on Saturday January 27, 2018 at 10AM at Loomis chapel.
Mrs. Mary Jo Goodwin was born May 19, 1919, in Atlanta, Georgia to Ethel Larson Miner and Edward Miner. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years Herman Goodwin, Jr., her two siblings, William Miner and Norris Miner, her son Lawrence (Larry) Goodwin, and her great grandchild, Dominic Morales. She is survived by her son Peter Goodwin (Lynn), her daughter Barbara Summerlin (Doyle), her daughter-in-law Melissa (Marc), 7 grandchildren Trisha Scheuerman (Mike), Suzanne Summerlin, Elizabeth Goodwin, Shannon Summerlin, Charles Goodwin (Jade), Peter Goodwin Jr., Matthew(Matt) Goodwin, and 7 great grandchildren; Zachary Scheuerman, Grace Scheuerman, Charles Powell, Gracie Powell, Bowie Pfingsten, Clara Tzuanos, Lawrence Goodwin.
Her family returned to Piedmont, FL after WWI. She was raised amongst the orange groves and gardens (two of her loves). She was trained to be a dental hygienist at Forsyth Institute in Boston, Mass during the end of WWII and returned to become the second dental hygienist in the Orlando area. She was a long standing member of the Foliage Garden Club of Apopka (and originally the Nasturtium Circle of the Apopka Garden Club) and a Florida Flower Show Master Judge. She was also a member of the Monday Night Book Club.
