Charles (Charlie) J. Vadala, 55, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Cornerstone Hospice, Sumtervile, FL. Charlie is survived by his wife, Diane, his sister, Wanita O'Hearn and her husband, Frank, his two brother in laws, Barry and his wife Joanne, and Jack and his wife, Maureen. Charlie and his wife celebrated their 33rd anniversary in April 2014. While others may have considered Charlie's life challenging, beginning in his childhood years, Charlie took life in stride, always remaining positive and optimistic about 6the future and what it would hold. Charlie touched the lives of many people during his lifetime, but especially in the last ten years in Apopka. Despite a lengthy and difficult battle with cancer, Charlie was always willing to help anyone in need. He opened the doors of his home to what he fondly called, "two legged and four legged rescues." His compassion and his generosity impacted co-workers and managers at the Home Depot, residents of Valencia Estates, animals from the Humane Society, who needed temporary shelter, and the residents of his own development. In 2008, Charlie became involved with the Apopka Relay For Life because he was diagnosed with islet cell tumor, a rare form of pancreatic cancer. His loyalty and devotion to friends and family spurred them to form a team, Charlie's Angels, to raise money for the ACS Relay For Life in 2012. The team raised over $8,000, an unprecedented fund-raising effort for a team comprised solely of devoted friends. The team received numerous awards for their efforts and reached the platinum status for the ACS. Charlie's philosophies on life are an inspiration. He Lived one day at a time and every life he touched was made better. He passionately believed in God and felt the universe had provided him with an opportunity to do service. Everyone who met Charlie was touched by his spirit, his innocence and his simplistic view of the world.
