David Scott Martin peacefully passed to his eternal home on Good Friday, March 30, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 23, 1931 in Altoona Pa. He was married to the love of his life, Elaine Mae Brown on April 23, 1954 in Pekin Il. David and Elaine were happily married for 64 years.
During the early development of the “space race” David worked at the Kennedy Space Center for over 20 years as a Communications Engineer. For 33 years he humbly and honorably served as pastor of Wekiwa Springs Baptist Church ministering and serving the people and community of Apopka as the church and city grew. His children remember him and their mother always willingly serving the needs of others. David was an avid hunter and fisherman, always listening to gospel and “good ole” country music. He could often be found on his ranch in Lake Jem tending his horses, his cattle, harvesting hay for his livestock and providing for the needs of others. He had a passion for “treasures” that others might call “junking or hoarding” but he firmly believed he might need those things one day. His love and devotion to Jesus Christ always came first in his life. He was beloved by many friends and especially by those in his church. The congregation at Wekiwa Springs, often referred to as “the church in the wheel barrow”, honored him by dedicating the fellowship hall in his name.
He was the proud father of four children: Judith Lucille England (deceased), Kim Christine Picton (Richard), Pamela Ann Lorenzo (Robert), James Clifford Martin. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
The celebration of David’s life, open to all who knew him and know his family, will take place Saturday April 7th at noon, with prior visitation from 10am – noon at Wekiwa Springs Baptist Church in Apopka, Florida. His final resting place will be at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, grave side services with military honors, scheduled for Monday April 9th at 930 am.
