Ned was a great big brother and mentor to me for several years, and then just a wonderful friend who could reconnect with anyone he knew within minutes. He was steady, overly generous, and loyal. His temperament was naturally genial and his conversational powers were above the average. He loved children especially all his, and could always entertainment them. We had many great adventures and a few near-great. His Newman-like eyes, combined with his South Boston Brahman accent (almost a brogue) could make a friend in minutes and make it last a lifetime. I'll never forget our last jovial conversation just last week, thinking it would be just one more in our long friendship. He was a man of warmth and genuine impulses, whose nature was to keep the golden rule, and whose faults all leaned toward virtues’ side. He has left a large circle of old and new true friends to mourn his departure. The storyteller is hushed; the anecdote is unfinished; the smile and twinkling eye is vanished; the words of welcome have turned to ashes upon the lips. But the memory of them lives with us still and will ever endure while memory lasts. Ned, grumpy-or-not, your life touched so many people in a positive way. Our condolences to Cathy and all the children, grandchildren, spouses, and great grandkids. Tamar & Ray Martin, DOMY
Frank J. Marino says
I remember Ned from our days at St. A's. A young man with a kind and generous manner. A young man who greeted all with a smile and carefree laugh. His life and mission on earth have been completed. Ned now begins his journey to a place where he will reap the rewards of his love of Cathy, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be with you all in the rustling leaves of fall, the beauty of fresh snow, the fragrance of spring flowers and the memories of summer nights. Ned is with you as that tear that sparkles on your skin. He lives with the Lord and within you. May you be comforted by all of the beautiful memories. Frank J. Marino '68 Saint Anselm College
