Mr. Frederick L. Holsinger

d. December 16, 2017

Frederick Leander Holsinger, Jr. was born August 10, 1955 to the union of Frederick L. Holsinger, Sr. and Gertrude Virginia Brown in Richmond, Indiana. He was the oldest son and big brother to 8 additional siblings.

Fred was educated in the public school system of Richmond and upon graduation from high school began his quest to fulfill his lifetime dream of becoming a police officer. His career in law enforcement began in Richmond and was completed in Florida. Along the way Fred accomplished many things including becoming the first African American police officer in the city of Ocoee, Florida.

After his time in Ocoee, he moved on to the Orange County Sheriffs Department and met the love of his life, Carmen Negron. They married June 24, 1991 and over the course of their 26 year marriage, raised three outstanding children, Albert, Luis, and Susan.  Fred was very proud of their accomplishments and beamed proudly when speaking of them.

Fred possessed a very strong sense of right and wrong that was evident even when he was a small boy. He was always polite and courteous, which often led his oldest sister to tease him about being "the most polite police officer she had ever met." He lived his convictions and family always came first. He was always the protector that family could count on. His favorite hobbies were sports and fishing.

He retired from law enforcement in 2010, still worked part time to keep himself busy and his hand in the craft.  He departed this life on Saturday, December 16, 2017. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Carmen, children Albert Irizarry, Luis Irizarry ( Ivymar) and Susan Irizarry. Siblings Dr. Catherine Burley, Victoria Gary, Christine Carter, Mike Ogle, Thomas Ogle, Sandra Holsinger, William Holsinger, and Harry Holsinger. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, great nieces and nephews, and friends. His loss will be felt deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing Frederick Leander Holsinger, Jr.
