Guadalupe “Lupe” Gomez, aged 74, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2024, in Orlando, Florida surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born on March 27, 1949, in Ejido Las Cuevas, Ciudad Acuña, Mexico, to Ramon Gomez Villanueva of Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico and Santos Diaz Villarreal of Abilene, Texas.
He was a farm worker from a very young age, traveling throughout the country with his family to work in places such as Idaho potato fields, Florida orange groves and Georgia blueberries; in the early 70s he eventually planted roots in Volusia County, Florida, working as a foreman in the fern industry. In 2000 he and his blended family moved to Orlando, Florida to be close to his children. He started his own landscaping business, A Touch of Country Lawn and Tree Service, from which he retired.
Lupe always had the ability to make anyone laugh and smile. He was known to walk into any room with a commanding presence, imparting a strong work ethic with a touch of laughter. He loved spending time with his family, creating gardens, as well as teaching his kids and grandkids his love of gardening. His favorite pastimes were playing the guitar, singing, journaling and reading the bible.
He is survived by his spouse of 31 years, Sylvia Martinez, sus hijos (con Maria Gpe. Gomez) – Marisol (Giovanny Bautista) Gomez (nietos: Jose y Samantha; bisnietos: Isabella, Ava, Dominic y Zailen); Santos Gomez (nietos: Dario, y Amanda); Maira (Jorge) Vega (nietos: Jorge Jr., Enrique, y Alejandro; bisnietas: Mya y Luna); Patricia (Abdul Maalik King) Gomez (nietos: Aijha y Kymanni); Micaela Gomez (nieta: Jasmin); y Lazaro Gomez, sus hijos de crianza – Leticia Ortiz (nietas: Karina y Daisy; bisnietos: Huey, Nevaeh y Heliana); Jose Martinez (nietos: Juan, Josie, Abby, Alexis, Rachel y Josue; biesnieta: Carla); Joann Martinez; John P. (Barbara Bahena) Martinez (nietos: Jasmine, John y Mia); Janet Martinez; Peter (Lesli Leticia) Martinez; and Maria (Salomon Tapia Hernandez) Martinez (nietos: Josemanuel, Keyla y Khamila), as well as his siblings: Julio Sr. (Prudenticana†); Hilario Sr. (Alicia); y Elsa (Honororio) and Maria (Juan) Hidalgo; his brother-in-law, best friend and confidant, Miguel A. Delgado, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ramon y Santos Gomez, and siblings: Pedro, Ventura (Olga), Crispin Sr. (Olivia), Ramon, Sr. (Margarita), Modesto (Leona†), and Pete (a/k/a Peter Gun).
