Hewis W. Durbin died peacefully, Sunday, May 2, 2021 at his home in Apopka, Florida with family at his side. Born March 5, 1931, he worked as a carpenter for local foliage nurseries in the Apopka area, had a passion for electronics and once owned a TV repair shop in Apopka. He enjoyed classic country music and was a big John Wayne fan. Hewis was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Claude Durbin; his mother, Giffie Mae Durbin; brothers, Ernest Durbin and Dewey Durbin; and his sister, Mable Durbin
Survivors include his wife Alice H. Durbin of Apopka; sons Steve Durbin of Apopka and Rodney Durbin (Penny) of Orlando; daughters Cathy Mock (Ronnie) of Apopka and Connie Gahnz (Gregory) of Apopka; eight grandchildren; Steven Durbin (Amanda), Wendy Durbin, Anthony Durbin (Kathy), Shawn Mock (Brandi), Jaime Mock, Eric Mock (Morgan), Jennica Gonzalez (Maximo), and Matthew Durbin; fourteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother James Durbin (Elizabeth) of Ramer, TN; and sister Mary Dixon (Avon-deceased) of Amherst, OH.
A celebration of his life will take place at Loomis Funeral Homes in Apopka, FL on May 14, at 11am.
