James was born September 20, 1925 in Panama City, Florida to James N. and Helen E. Owens. He has a sister, Kathyrene (deceased), a brother William (living), and a brotehr, Ernest (deceased). Graduating high school in 1943, it was time to join the Navy Seabees construction battalion. James served in the Pacific until the end of the war. While waiting to be discharged in Miami, he met his future wife Thelma Lockerby, whom he married in June 1946. A son, James Allen, was born in May 1947. The Korean war came along in 1950 and the Navy said we need you again. A daughter, Gail Lee, was born in September 1951. James loved to drive. In 1959 he started working for the Orlando Transit Company and retired in 1987, after winning many safe driving awards, one being top driver for the whole state of Florida. Spending almost 30 years in retirement, his second favorite thing to do was tinker with broken things, especially motors and repair them. In all the years along the way, James was blessed with 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
