James Richard Herbert, of Zellwood Station, FL, passed away on May 12, 2019 at the age of 92. J.R. was born June 6, 1925 in Huntington, West Virginia to Doyle and Marie Herbert although he grew up in Shelby, Ohio. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific, and after marring his high school sweetheart Gwen Stahlheber, had sons Jeff and Mark and daughter Laura, all surviving today. Additionally, grandsons Jason and Cody live in Texas, Austin in California and granddaughter Maya in Georgia. As an insurance man for the Shelby Mutual Insurance Co., Jim relocated the family from Ohio to Winter Park, Florida in the mid ‘50’s and was active in the support of sports car races in Florida and Georgia. Later in life, Jim and Gwen traveled around the nation in their R.V. finally coming back to Florida again to live. He was a Little League coach, go-karter, fisherman, husband and a great father. The family misses him and has many happy memories from over the years.
