Jervis N Menzies, age 84, resided in Apopka for many years and transitioned on July 21 st , 2020. He was one of six children born to Stanley and Ivy Menzies on October 23 rd , 1935 in Manchester, Jamaica, West Indies. He is survived by his spouse, six children, fifteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and his three sisters. Jervis migrated to London, England where he studied at The Easterly School of Technology, becoming a Certified Baker, and acquired a Master Baker Apprenticeship Degree at Jay Lions Bakery Co Ltd. He received additional specialized training within the baking industry at Brent Bridge College. After working as a Master Baker in London, Jervis established his own business called Mervin’s Bakery where he specialized in producing continental and a variety of Caribbean bakery products and was especially known all over London for his tasty beef patties, authentic to the Jamaican flavor he grew up tasting. Jervis was known for his amazing culinary skills and everybody loved his cooking. He taught his children how to cook and anyone who needed advice on a recipe or how to prepare a dish, Jervis was the person to call.
Jervis was a classic renaissance man who attired himself with nothing but the best and enjoyed the finer things in life. Jervis was generous, and always extended a helping hand without hesitation and helped others to enter careers that propelled them to higher levels of achievement. Jervis also surrounded himself with laughter, joy, family, and friends. He loved to impart wisdom, and humor while telling unforgettable stories; bringing lots of laughter to those whom he touched. He had an affinity towards law, politics and often engaged in political debate, always in the know of the current pollical climate. Jervis was an avid reader, loved to watch tennis, cycle, play golf and loved to garden. He cultivated a beautiful front and back yard where he tended to a variety of plants, trees, herbs and loved to share the proceeds of his crop with family, friends, as well as his neighbors. Jervis is best known for his spontaneous personality, kindness, spirit of giving, love of family, charm, wit, friends and anybody who met Jervis fell in love with his magnetic personality.
He will truly be missed by all but please don’t be sad, just remember the times shared and laugh or smile at the memory of dad otherwise affectionately known as grandad.
