John Harvey Rhodes Jr. was born June 5, 1933 in Estherville, Iowa to June Mosher and John Harvey Rhodes. He grew up in Estherville and moved in 1950 with his family to Winter Park and later to Ocoee. He served in the United States Army, and rarely spoke of his time during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Rollins College in 1955. He earned a degree in law from Stetson University in 1960 and practiced law until his retirement in 2013. He was one of the first to settle around the groves of Fish Lake in Ocoee. He married Rena Margaret Joyner in 1966 and had two sons, John Rayburn of Molino (Krystal) and William Mosher of Lake Butler (Amanda). He later married Longia Vandergriff. He was an active participant in many community service organizations. He was an avid golfer and loved hunting and fishing. He spoke with perspicuity and acted with philanthropy. He will be missed by all that had the privilege to know him. He is survived by his two sons, brother Richard S. Rhodes (Kathy), a step-daughter Mary Ann Johnson. Also, his nieces Jennifer Rhodes and Judith R. Langford (Kenyon), a nephew R. Spencer Rhodes (Tracey), grand-children Kaytlin, John-Daniel, Kasey and Lauren Rhodes, Mark and Adam Johnson. There will be a private memorial service to be held at a later date.
