Loyd Thomas Tynes passed away on August 16, 2018 at the age of 87 in Apopka, Florida. Loyd was a man who loved God and was ready to meet him face to face. He was active in his church, FBC Covington, serving in many capacities over the past 30 years.
Loyd was the youngest son of Ardella and Thomas Tynes of Stateline, Louisiana. He had two sisters, Lorena Crain and Doris Seal, and one brother, Melvin Tynes.
Loyd served his country during peace time as a sailor in the Navy for one year. He returned home to Stateline where he met his wife, Martha “Margain” Thomas Tynes. They were married for 59 years before she passed away in 2013. They raised their family in Bogalusa and later Covington, Louisiana.
Loyd was a jack of all trades. He worked as a mechanic, furniture salesman and store manager before retiring from disability to be a stay at home dad. He was an avid gardener, fisherman, excellent cook and enjoyed traveling in his later years with his wife and friends.
Loyd’s legacy is in his daughters, Cheryl Carrier (Bert) of Apopka, Florida and Amy Burns(Mike) of Covington, Louisiana and their children, Justin Carrier (Charlotte) and Leah Beth Carrier of Apopka, Florida, and Scott Danna of Covington, Louisiana. He also had two precious great- grandchildren, Andrew and Caroline Carrier.
A celebration of Loyd’s life will be held Saturday, September 8th at 2:00 at First Baptist Church Covington. Interment at Crain Cemetery will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home or the FBC Covington building fund.
