Mr. Matthew Patrick Glander

d. April 1, 2024

We are sad to announce the passing of Matthew Patrick Glander, 64, of Tavares, Florida. Matt passed away on April 1st, 2024. Matt was born on October 23, 1959, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his children Matthew Paul Glander, Olivia Glander and Andrew Glander; grandchildren Logan Carpenter and Colton Carpenter; as well as his siblings Mark, Denise, Julie, John and Anthony Glander.

Matt graduated from Rockville High School(’78) and received his Masonry degree from Lake City Community College. He enjoyed working with his hands, whether it was construction or golf course management. One of the hallmarks of his life and greatest gifts he left to those who knew him was his willingness to work hard. Matt demonstrated that if you took on a job, you needed to do it correctly. Measure twice, cut once was a practice he instilled in anyone who worked on a project with him. However, the funny man in him also allowed for some teasing if you made the mistake of measuring once and having to cut twice. Laughter was taught to be a necessary part of every project.

Seemingly, there wasn’t any task that was too big for Matt. He had done it all at least once; fencing, roofing, drywalling, painting, concrete, flooring, landscaping. He never shied away from a hard day’s work. If you had a project to get done, you were glad for his company. He was the first to be there if you needed him. A willingness to sacrifice his time to help another is another lasting part of Matt’s legacy.

Matt loved his family and loved spending time with his kids. Whether it was an adventure or working alongside his kids on any project. Completing a project and looking at a job well done brought him joy. Seeing his kids or grandkids find success or accomplishing a goal brought him his greatest happiness. He was always quick to share a story about his kids, grandkids, and their successes.

One of the other foremost traits of Matt’s life was his passion for the outdoors. All of his kids mirror his zest for the outdoors. His greatest joy was raising and spending time with his kids on the water in Florida and in the mountains of Idaho. Fishing, camping, motorcycling, and sitting around a campfire were simple joys Matt wanted to share with all those he loved. Watching his grandkids casting lines, shooting arrows, or golf cart rides with them always brought a smile to his face. He enjoyed cigars, motorcycles, crossword puzzles, and Mountain Dew. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and love of old TV shows.

As we inventory our lives, there can be no doubt we have all been shaped and influenced by Matt. Matt’s mark on this world and his impression on the lives of those he left behind will last forever. He will be missed by his many loved ones and friends. His family hopes he is riding his dream Harley through the heavenly golden gates .
