Richard W. Rogers, 89, of Apopka, Florida, passed away January 06, 2021. He was born April 28, 1931 in Meridian, Mississippi. Mr. Rogers is preceded in death by his loving wife Jane Rogers; son David Rogers and grandson Christopher David. He is survived by his granddaughter Amanda Farrell and beloved grandson in-law, Wayne; great grandchildren Jessilyn, Holly and Wayne III; daughter in-law Patricia (Robert) Walloga; and his sister Kay Fry, as well as many loved ones and friends.
Richard was a Navy veteran; he was an electrician’s mate and was most proud of his work with the gyro compass. He had many successful business endeavors. The most notable of which was Richard Rogers’ Nursey, where he innovated the plant potting process. Later, Rogers Music & Games, a coin operated amusement business, thrived with the help of his wife and son.
Richard was a member of the Elks Lodge for many years and supported numerous children’s organizations. He was a large part of his son and grandchildren’s lives.
He was under hospice care in his home since June 2020 where he stayed until his death. Richard is at peace and in the arms of our Lord. He took his last breaths’ in the arms of his family as they told him they loved him. He passed peacefully and in no pain. He was able to meet his great grandchildren and watch them grow and sang prayers with them every night.
Richard would talk about when he would no longer be in hospice. He looked forward to a time when his oxygen would no longer be necessary and when the walker and wheelchair would be a thing of the past. He was right. He no longer needs those things. No more wheelchair, no more walker, no more oxygen and no more hospice. His family thought he was crazy to believe all those things… but all along he was right, now he is free.
In lieu of flowers, Richard’s loved ones ask that you donate to a children’s charity of your choice, in honor of his memory.
