On Tuesday, September 29, 2020, Robert Thomas McGuire, loving husband, friend, and father of three children and one grandchild, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly from emergency gallbladder surgery at the age of 72 in Sanford, Florida. Bob was born on April 25, 1948 in Waterbury, CT, the only child of the late Thomas and Peggy (Boppeler) McGuire. He graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1971 with a degree in History, and went on to begin a long and successful career in the cable TV industry, then in its infancy. He began knocking on doors as a sales representative at Cox Cable in Hartford, CT in 1975, and worked his way up through the ranks over the next nine years as he crisscrossed the country for Cox in Indianapolis, IN, Virginia Beach, VA, Atlanta, GA, and Vancouver, WA. In 1984, Bob joined Continental Cablevision in Jacksonville, FL as Regional Sales Director. Next came Cable Marketing Corporation, also in Jacksonville, where he was VP of Marketing. In 1989, Bob teamed up with other seasoned cable executives as joint owner, Chairman/ CEO of Evergreen Sales and Marketing in Daytona Beach, FL. Over the next 22 years Evergreen remained tops in the field of both inbound and outbound telemarketing services for the cable television industry. In 2011, Bob sold his interest in Evergreen as part of a corporate merger and permanently retired. “Remember Evergreen for All Your Telemarketing Needs.”
Bob took immense joy in his children, acting as coach, guide, friend and most importantly partner in crime. He loved taking them on cruises and traveling, exposing them to many different worlds and experiences, all with laughter as the muse. He revelled at each stage they took in their unique journeys to adulthood. And he was so proud to be a grandpa. Bob’s wonderful sense of humor and playfulness touched all who came into his life. He was known for his quick wit, infectious smile and gift of gab, as well as his kind, compassionate and often child-like spirit. He had an enormous
talent for mentoring others by sharing the wisdom, tips and tricks learned and lived during his almost 30 years of sobriety, as well as his many years as a business professional. Bob’s generosity also benefited Open Door Haiti, where he served on the board, contributing both his time and resources to assist in the development of a school and orphanage in an impoverished area of Bois de Lance, Haiti. Bob will be lovingly missed by his wife of 26 years, Heather (Grasso) and their daughter Hunter (19); his former spouse Linda (Satalino) and their children Thomas McGuire (Megan Massie) of Sanford, FL; Lauren McGuire of Los Angeles, CA, and granddaughter Madison McGuire, age 3. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Tom, and his mother Peggy. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 9, 2020 at Seminole Community Church, 5070 Orange Blvd, Sanford, FL 32771 at 10am. Due to COVID19 restrictions, capacity is limited to 150 attendees split between indoor seating and covered pavilion outdoor seating. A separate Celebration of Life service via video replay will be conducted at a later date (TBD) for the many AA friends whose lives Bob touched. This video replay will also be available upon request to those who cannot attend in person
due to travel and health considerations related to COVID19.
