Ruben J. Sumner, 91, of Apopka, passed away Friday, January 23, 2015. He was born October 21, 1923 in Emanuel County, GA. and moved to Central Florida 1944. He worked in Maintenance at Herman Engelmann’s Nursery for 60 years. Mr. Sumner is survived by his loving wife, Betty Sumner of Apopka; children, Tony Starnes; Cindy Taylor; Lorraine Colston; Charlotte Allen; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren
This heritage started 67 years ago with Pastor Herbert F. Loomis, who founded the First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach, Florida, in 1934. In 1938 Francis E. Loomis, son of Pastor Herbert F. Loomis, received his license to practice Mortuary Science and in 1941 established Loomis Funeral Home of Winter Garden, FL.
