Thomas Edward Reading was received into the arms of Jesus on Saturday May 5, 2018 after being ill for several months. Tom was born in Trenton, NJ on June 20, 1953 and was one of six children born to John and Hilda Reading. Tom was known for his humorous stories from the “shipbuilding days” and his creative engineering. During high school in Syracuse, NY, he had several of his designs on display at the local art museum.
In 1971, the family moved to Florida and Tom enlisted in the US Army in 1972. Tom served three tours of duty in Germany as a Combat Engineer during which time he was witness to the fall of the Berlin Wall. Upon returning to the states, he was stationed in Texas as a recruiter and received many commendations for service during his career. In 1990, he returned to Apopka and became a mail carrier for the USPS in Apopka until his retirement in 2015.
Tom’s engineering skills translated into his love of rebuilding vintage automobiles, remote control airplanes and computers as well as being an awesome cook! He had a generous heart and was always trying to help others as well as being a great “dad” to all his doggies.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents John P and Hilda G Reading; sister Carol L Hoffman; sister Elizabeth A Reading; and brother John C Reading.
He is survived by brother Robert D Reading, Florence (Vince) Smith, many loving nieces, nephews and cousins, very special friend Marilyn Polson and his beloved dog Tinkerbell.
