Della P. (Fyock) Duncan
Della P. (Fyock) Duncan passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2020, in Winter Garden, Florida, at the age of 98.
Born in Penn Run, Pennsylvania, on June 11, 1922 Della was the daughter of the late Robert and Cora Fyock. She graduated from Pine Township High School in Heilwood, Pennsylvania. She married the love of her life, Francis Duncan, and they enjoyed 76 years of happily married life, living in the East, West and South during those years.
Della worked side by side with her husband on his many projects throughout her life. They owned and operated school busses for the local school district and she was always involved in the business with him.
The outstanding feature of Della’s life was her complete love and commitment to her family. She was very involved in her children’s schools and activities, community service and was superintendent of children’s classes and was a deaconess where her family attended church, the Penn Run Church of the Brethren.
Della raised her family in Strongstown, Pennsylvania, and after the children had moved on with their own lives, she and her husband moved first to Torrance, California, where they resided for many years to be near their daughter and family and then moved to Apopka, Florida to be near their son’s family. There were many years of wonderful bi-coastal vacations. It didn’t matter to Della where they lived – it was important to be with the family. In 2017, after declining health issues, they relocated to Golden Pond Communities in Winter Garden.
Della was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings: brothers Doyle and Dale Fyock and sisters Dorothy Kendall and Dora Jane Fyock and by her devoted husband, Francis in 2017. She is survived by her two children: Dorothy (Edward) Benardo of Torrance, California and Robert (Cathy) of Apopka. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Cara (Jason) Imbs of Winter Springs, Florida; Kristi (Lorin) Jackley of Apopka; and Ariana (Adam) Walicke of Gilbert, Arizona, and five great-grandchildren: Jacob and Addison Imbs, Lukas and Avery Jackley and Elin Walicke. She is also survived by her special family cousin, Mae Hemme and many loving nieces, nephews and their families.
The family would like to thank the staff at Golden Pond for the loving care over the years. Della was fortunate to have so many people show her kindness everyday.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 6, 2020 at Loomis Family Funeral Home in Apopka. Masks required. Visitation begins at 2:00 pm, and the service at 2:30, followed by interment at Highland Memory Gardens where Della will be laid to rest with her late husband. The Rev. Aaron Ankeny, nephew-in-law, will preside.
