Mrs. Elizabeth Elise Williams

d. September 10, 2023

ELIZABETH E WILLIAMS of Apopka died peacefully on September 10th due to complications from a slight stroke on Monday September 8th with her family by her side. Born in Harmontown, Mississippi in 1927, Elizabeth excelled as a straight A student at her small, one room school house in the rural, Depression-era South and attended the Mississippi University for Women on an academic scholarship where she continued to excel as a biology major. As a young woman she had an adventurous spirit, doing post-grad work at Mississippi State, LSU and the University of Colorado in Boulder. She pursued teaching as a profession. Early in her career she taught in such interesting and diverse regions as the mountains of Colorado, Coral Gables, Fl and Mobile, Alabama. She came to Central Florida as a science teacher at Apopka Memorial High School in 1955. After her marriage to AMHS principal Roger A Williams she began a career in elementary education which included teaching at the former Winter Garden Elementary, Lovell Elementary, Phillis Wheatley Elementary and Dream Lake Elementary. She touched the lives of many students; her gift as a teacher was inspiring her students to share the passion she had for learning and helping them realize potential that many did not see in themselves. She was a giver. Her true joy in life was helping others. She was known and beloved throughout the Apopka community for her sharp mind, upbeat sense of humor, warm and generous disposition and, most of all, for her true passion for making the lives of her friends, neighbors and family better. Her life brought joy to others. She is survived by daughter Lisa Sellers (Steve), son Roger and brother Roy F Smith and grandchildren Mason, Katherine, Jack and Reed, and was pre-deceased by daughter Rose and husband Roger A. Williams. Viewing Sunday September 14th and funeral service Monday September 15th 11am, both at the First Presbyterian Church of Apopka. Funeral arrangements made by Loomis Funeral Homes.
