Eudeen Hamer-Mott, 66, passed away on August 8, 2014 at Florida Hospital Orlando. Born December 3, 1947 in Winona, Mississippi, she was the 8th of 10 children born to Willie and Classie Louise Whitehead-Hamer.
Eudeen grew up in Gary, Indiana. She graduated from Gary Roosevelt High School in 1965. Throughout her childhood, Eudeen demonstrated the characteristics that helped everyone around her know that she was destined to do great works. The mere uniqueness of her name complemented the innate knowledge, skills and abilities that would mold her to become a great success – EUDEEN (emotionally intelligent; unwavering supporter; dedicated to excellence; eager to make a difference; empowering; and “no” was never the right answer).
Eudeen began working early in life. It was important for her to help provide financial support to her family. She worked a variety of jobs here and there, but after about five years of working as a secretary at United States Steel -Gary Works, Eudeen left that “good-paying” job at the steel mill to go to college, as she had a sound idea that she was to become a TEACHER. (No doubt, Eudeen was probably the oldest college freshman on the campus of Purdue University! No matter, she was a proud and persevering Boilermaker, determined to live her dream). Eudeen continued her studies at Indiana University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (1974) and a Master of Science in Elementary Education (1978).
Eudeen began working as a professional teacher in 1974. Her first assignment was at Edison Middle School in Gary, Indiana (1974 to 1978). She relocated to Florida working in Broward County Public Schools (1981 – 1990); Orange County Public Schools (1990-2010). For her exemplary dedication and professionalism, she was saluted as “Teacher of the Year”, Banyan Elementary School, 1983-84; “Teacher of the Year”, Windermere Elementary School, 1992-93); and while at Lakeville Elementary School, she was the recipient of the Disney’s Teacherrific Award in 1993 and again in 2000, along with several other phenomenal educators their spotlighted railroad museum. After more than 26 years of molding and mending minds, Eudeen retired while serving at Wolf Lake Elementary School in Apopka.
Eudeen was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Classie Hamer; her “big” brothers Joseph and Tom Hamer; and most recently, her “big” brother Charles Hamer (September 2013) and “big” sister, Virginia Louise Hamer-Edwards (July 2014).
Eudeen is survived by her spouse Clarence Mott of Apopka, Florida; her dogs Winston and Taylor, both of whom were like her children; her brother Willie Earl Hamer of Orlando, Florida; her sister, Barbara Robinson of Gary, Indiana; her brother Michael (Veronica) Hamer of Orlando, Florida; and her youngest sister, Carmen Maria Hamer of Apopka, Florida. Eudeen leaves to cherish her memory three loving sister-in-laws Eva, Yvonne, and Gail Hamer, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Mott had true compassion for her students, co-workers and friends. She dedicated herself to excellence and expected nothing less of others. She had a well-defined, purpose driven life and exercised her right to live her life on her “own” terms.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude and heartfelt thanks for your prayers and support during a very difficult time. We sincerely appreciate your sentiments of love. We invite you to join us on Saturday, August 16, 2014 to celebrate Eudeen's life and encourage you to post pictures, write word of condolences or her obituary page. -“Clarence Mott and the Hamer Family

It was my honor to teach with Eudeen at Windermere Elementary school. She was a great teacher, and I admired her tremendously. Science seemed to be her favorite subject, but she was highly skilled in every area of curriculum. I've been retired for 18 years now, but I do still often of Eudeen.Jill Brown

Some of my fondest childhood memories were the alternating weekend visits between the Gilliam family in Chicago and the Hamer family in Gary, IN. Eudeen, her sister Barbara and I were close in age so we spent a lot of time playing, talking and laughing together. Eudeen had a way of making a shy kid (me) feel at ease. She was not only one of my favorite cousins, but one of my best friends. Rest in peace, Deen

To the family of Eudene Mott. I must say i was surprised to hear about Eudene's passing because she was so full of vigor and had a relentless spirit. a part of me was tearful and a part of me was cheerful. She had a love for truth and that truth she proclaimed to those who cared to hear, not being bashful but bold in spirit to inspire others with knowledge and understanding that had been given to her. we met in a bible class years ago and the words that were spoken in her that she imparted to others will live on forever superceding death hell and the grave. Loving memories of Eudene will live in my heart. To the family another soilder who faught a good fight has gone on to glory releasing the shackles of this world into a world eternal, abiding forever. May peace be your ankor and comfort your guide during your time of loss. She hasnt gone far and always near in our hearts. With love-Barbara Newsome/IDMR

Growing up, I tried to make Deen closer to my age than she actually was. So she had to put forth a little more effort to appease me when I wanted her to play games with me, and I would have to tell her what she was supposed to say or do next. But she was always obliging. I think she even felt sorry for me when one of my siblings, or her's, would say to me, "Deen doesn't want to play those baby games with you!" But Deen never said that to me and she did play with me; for a while anyway. She was just nice like that.

Mrs. Mott was my fourth grade teacher at Lakeville Elementary. I have many fond memories of that year. Under her guidance, she helped me discover what I wanted to pursue as a career. She was also instrumental in helping to expand my musical education. During high school, she wrote a letter of recommendation on my behalf which resulted in helping to achieve my dream of becoming a drum major. We will miss her greatly but her legacy and determination to strive for excellence will live on through her students.
