A COAL MINERS DAUGHTER
Gladys Hampton, born in Letcher CO, KY, on August 05, 1933. The daughter of Silas and Rachel (Lucas) Hampton. Her mom passed away when she was less than 3 years old, she lived with her Grandmother Lucas and her Aunt Draxie for around 4 years. Her dad remarried Mary Bryant and she came to live with them, they had a son Allen Ray Hampton whom married Sue. The 8th grade was as far as she went in school and when she was 23 years old her and some friends came to Florida. They arrived in Zellwood, Florida in January of 1957. Gladys got a job and a place to live and decided to stay. Gladys’ life was changing; she met Deward Ross Martin, they married in June 28, 1957. They welcomed their first child, a son, Ross Allen, on July 10, 1960. Then in December 21, 1963 they welcomed their only daughter Patricia Ann. Then son October 09, 1965 they welcomed their youngest son David Leon. The family lived in Zellwood all those years, David married Lisa Aldridge, and they had a son Nathan Tyler. Patricia married Jeff Billette, they had a daughter Rachel Lynn, and a Son Jared. Gladys worked off and on at Fernwood Nursey from the late 50's to 1984, then she worked and retired from Dana Lynn Nursey, she was a wonderful potter of plants. Gladys had many nieces and nephews that she loved very much. Everyone who met Gladys liked her, she was a very genuine person, real and caring. She was a humble and kind lady and what you saw was what you got. She was a very down to Earth person who never had much but was always happy. She will be missed dearly by all that had the privilege to know her.
