Helene M. Marcus, “Granny”, 86, of Apopka, Florida, peacefully passed away at home on September 6, 2019 with her family by her side.
She was born to the late Frank and Hazel Miotke in Adams County, Wisconsin. She was one of six children. She had two sisters, Fran Rydberg and Elaine Ellinger, and three brothers, Mike Miotke, James (deceased), and Bernard (deceased). She grew up in Oxford, Wisconsin and graduated from Oxford High School, where she was a cheerleader and in the band. In 1951, she married Gene Radliff and was a full-time homemaker and mother to four children. They relocated several times between Lake Delton, Wisconsin and Florida. They moved to Apopka in 1965, and this has been her home ever since. After Gene’s passing, she later married Raymond Marcus and they were married for 42 years.
Some of the things she loved to do was travel, bake cookies, and host family gatherings. Her favorite was the annual Christmas Eve celebration. She loved to dance the polka and have fun. She worked many years at the Orange County Courthouse in Apopka and then at Apopka High School. After retiring, she volunteered her time for many years in the food pantry at St. Francis Catholic Church. She made hundreds of blankets for Loaves and Fishes, and also gave them to family members as gifts, which were cherished by all who received them. The one quality about her that always stood out was her unconditional love for her family. She always had a smile on her face and anyone she met, loved her. She will be missed forever.
She is survived by her husband Raymond, daughters Lynne Posey (Jerry), Pam Donaldson, Debbie Sherman, son Kim Radliff, step-daughter Cheryl (Jimmy) Whitmer, step-son Eric Marcus, and seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, September 12, with the viewing at 10:00am and the service beginning at 11:00am at Loomis Funeral Home, 420 West Main Street, Apopka, Florida. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
The family would like to especially thank the Vitas Healthcare doctor and nurses who cared for her during the last few months of her life.
