MARGARET ANN “PEGGY” (KATHMAN) KING
Margaret Ann “Peggy” (Kathman) King passed away at Florida Hospital in Apopka, Florida on September 26, 2017. She was born on April 8, 1942 in Covington, Kentucky to Roger Kathman and Ethel Herbert.
Peggy graduated in 1960 from Villa Madonna Academy in Villa Hills, Kentucky. While in high school, Peggy played varsity volleyball.
She met Joseph King of New York City while vacationing in Florida. After marrying on September 15, 1962 at Blessed Sacrament in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, the couple lived in Yonkers, New York. The couple later lived in Mahopac, New York with their two children, Diane and Christina. In 1973, the family moved to Gaithersburg, Maryland. Peggy and her family enjoyed traveling in their motor home.
After Joe retired, Peggy put him to work again by starting Kingsway, a business where they sold watches, jewelry and other items at federal government buildings in the Washington, DC, area and later at flea markets in Florida. The couple retired to Zellwood Station in Zellwood, Florida where they enjoyed the good life.
They particularly enjoyed relaxing in Daytona Beach. Peggy was a member of the Zellwood Station Signal Lights. She also enjoyed watching the Washington Redskins. She and Joe enjoyed weekly trips to the movies. Peggy’s favorite holiday was Christmas for which she would spend days carefully wrapping each present and writing the most very extra, extra special sayings on each gift.
Peggy very much enjoyed helping others. She was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, godmother, sister, neighbor and friend. She is survived by her husband, Joseph King of Zellwood Station, Florida; her daughter, Diane King Widmann of Frederick, Maryland and her husband John; her daughter, Christina (King) Vert of North Potomac, Maryland and her husband Kenneth; three grandchildren, Hans Widmann of Frederick, Maryland, Martin Widmann of Baltimore, Maryland, and Samantha Vert of North Potomac, Maryland; three sisters, Barbara (Kathman) Riley of Hebron, Kentucky; Linda (Kathman) Emmett of Edgewood, Kentucky and Nancy (Kathman) Cahill of Erlanger, Kentucky, and two brothers, Roger Kathman, Jr. of Sarasota, Florida and Bobby Kathman of Mulberry, Florida.
Funeral arrangements are private. Donations may be made in Peggy’s honor to the American Cancer Society.
