Marilyn Ann Furtney Miller

Marilyn Ann Miller of Apopka, Florida passed from her earthly home into her heavenly home on December 9, 2020 at the age of 88.  Marilyn was born August 18, 1932, the daughter of Carl and Vera (Shaules) Furtney of Detroit, Michigan.  The family moved shortly after to Ypsilanti, Michigan where Marilyn was raised in a loving family along with her older brother Donald, “Bud”, and younger brother Jerry.

Marilyn graduated from Ypsilanti High School in the class of 1950.  She attended Eastern Michigan University and worked at Ford Motor Company as a secretary.  Marilyn met the love of her life, Carl, and they married in 1954 in Ypsilanti at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church.  Together they raised four children.  Carl retired in 1992, and they moved to Apopka, Florida.

Emmanuel Lutheran Church was an important part of her life.  Marilyn was active at Emmanuel serving for a number of years as president of the women’s association and leading conferences of local Lutheran churches.

Marilyn will forever be remembered by her family and friends.  We will remember Christmas time and how Marilyn made this time of year so special.  Summers at Portage Lake.  Family vacations in the car.  Miller family get-togethers on holidays.  Furtney reunions with the Canadians.  Travels with Carl on tours around the world.  Travels with family and friends in the U.S. and aboard.  And of course, competitive duplicate bridge with her good friends in both Michigan and Florida.

Marilyn is survived by husband, Carl, and her four children: LuAnne Copeland (Ted), Bruce Miller (Atonya), Scott Miller (Jodi), and Joe Miller; her eight grandchildren: Jason, Jessie, Bobbie, Eric, Carey, Max, Alex, and Leslie; and her six great-grandchildren: Henry, Asher, Sadie, David, Caleb, and Isaac; sisters-in-law, cousins, and many nieces and nephews.

Marilyn wrote shortly before her death that her life has been a blessing and a joy.  Her passion was her family.  She was a devoted wife, loving mother, Christian woman, and loyal friend to many.  She is greatly missed.  A memorial service is planned in Ypsilanti, Michigan this coming summer 2021.
