Mary Lou Welker born on March 13, 1939 in Slippery Rock, PA on her parents working farm. Her parents Joe and Mabel Currie raised dairy cattle, turkeys and vegetables. As she was the youngest of 14 children many of the farm chores became hers as she grew up.
She graduated in 1957 from Slippery Rock High School and started her working career. She became a telephone operator for bell telephone of pa in new castle.
She married her husband Kenneth L. Welker on May 27, 1966. She also became an instant mother of three children Tracey age 4, Rhonda age 6 and Scott age 8. She made a seamless transition from single to married with children.
Mary Lou and Kenneth had many business adventures from race horses to hairdressing. She was widowed in 1994 and consequently had to close Coiffures by Kenneth Salon in Apopka, Florida. She later tried her hand as a business owner and opened a tanning and nail salon in Ocoee, Florida, it flourished until the economic crashed in 2008. She finished up her working career this year as a food demonstrator at Costco.
Mary Lou was a women of many talents. She was a faithful wife and a selfless mother. She was impeccable seamstress, food preservation artist, very talented cook and baker. She loved ceramic finishing, a fine wardrobe, stiletto shoes, and could rock bangle bracelets like no one else. She had an infectious laugh and smile that lit up any room.
She had 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, all of which she loved very much. Being a part of 2 large families, she knew each one by name and enjoyed their company. She always carried a concern for people and was truly afraid of offending anyone as she had many, many friends.
Mary Lou Welker passed from this life peacefully on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 7:00 AM. She was a faith filled Christian to her and in the arms of Christ she rests.
