Shirley Ruth (Cole) Meeks passed away on May 29, 2024, in Winter Park, Florida, at the age of 88. She was born on May 2, 1936, in Wadesboro, North Carolina. Shirley was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother with a kind heart who believed in helping others.
Shirley is survived by the love of her life for 70 years, William (Bill) T. Meeks, her sons Steven Meeks and Scott (Kim) Meeks, four grandchildren (Katie Meeks, Laura (A.J.) Liu, Emily Meeks, and Hagen Meeks), and two great-grandchildren (Corbin Godley and Logan Liu). She was preceded in death by her parents Martha Ann Stone Cole, and Clyde James Cole, and her brothers Carson, Clyde Jr., Richard, Leon, and Ray Cole, and sisters Louise Lineberry, Doris Henry, and Pat Vinesett.
Shirley graduated from Wadesboro High School Class of 1954 and went on to become a dedicated homemaker, actively raising her two boys and engaging in their school and extracurricular activities. Together with her husband Bill, she was a member of a square-dancing club and a bowling league.
A beloved member of Aloma Baptist Church for over 50 years, Shirley found solace and community in her faith. She enjoyed gardening, painting in multimedia, and cherishing moments with her family and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held at Aloma Baptist Church on Thursday, June 13th, at 11:00 am. Shirley will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
