Tommie Irene Carney was born on December 15, 1945 in Columbia, South Carolina. At the age of 5 she was adopted by Beulah and Tom Carney and grew up in Columbia, South Carolina. In 1965 she married James McLaughlin, Sr. Daughter Michelle and son James Jr. were born while they lived in Columbia. In 1971 they moved to Orlando, Florida.
For 12 years, Irene drove the school bus for Orlando Junior Academy. During that time she started selling Tupperware and rose to the rank of distributor. She spent 30 years in Tupperware.
Irene was an active member of the Spring Meadows Seventh-day Adventist Church (formerly Winter Springs SDA Church). She held many positions there, including organist, socials director, Sabbath School leader, elder, and organizer of the annual Camp Kulaqua church retreat for 35 years.
Irene died on June 12 after a lengthy illness. A memorial service will be held at the Spring Meadows SDA Church on Saturday, July 22 at 4:00 p.m. Interment will be held at Thanksgiving in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Irene is survived by her husband, James McLaughlin, Sr.; daughter, Michelle (Chris) Hulin, son James McLaughlin, Jr.; and grandchildren Corbin and Chadwick Hulin, Macy Beyer and Zachary McLaughlin; sisters Brenda Torrence and Denise Cato; and brother Rick Senn. She is preceded in death by her mother Frances Senn; adoptive parents Beulah and Tom Carney; and sisters Jackie Senn and Sandra Senn.
