Anna May Sorenson, 87, of Mt. Dora, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2021. Anna May was born on May 20, 1934 in Pittsburgh, Pa to the late William and Anna Koerbel. She preceded in death by her husband, Richard Sorenson. She is survived by her children Diana (Ron) Walls and Andrew (Vicki) Sorenson. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren Stephanie (Sean) Madji, Christopher (Kristen) Gorman, Ryan (Rachel) Sorenson and Regan Sorenson and her precious great-grandchildren, Laylah, Cole, and Mason Madji and Addison and Luke Gorman. Her family brought her so much joy.
Anna May and Dick (Richard) moved to Winter Park, Florida in the late 1960’s and finally settled in Mt. Dora to enjoy their retirement years. Anna May enjoyed playing bridge in several local groups. For many years she played tennis in leagues in Winter Park and Mt. Dora. One of her dreams was to get her pilot’s license and she was proud to accomplish that. Music was a big part of her life. She played violin for many years and sang. Most importantly was her faith in Jesus Christ. She was a current member of First United Methodist Church of Mt. Dora where she attended Sunday school and naturally, sang in the church choir. Her favorite hobby was raising orchids. The plants had the biggest and most beautiful blooms. Anna May also enjoyed attending the sporting events of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren which she did right up until her passing.
The Memorial Service for Anna May will be Friday, November 12 at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Dora. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Music Ministry of that church, 439 E. Fifth Ave, Mt. Dora, Fl 32757 or to Cornerstone Hospice Foundation, 2445 Lane Park Rd., Tavares, FL 32778.
Renee Wise says
Anna May and I sang together in the alto section of the choir. She had a good sense of humor and we shared some good times. She was so proud of her late husband, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She often spoke of how musically talented her family is and I enjoyed her many stories about them. Anna May was a perfectionist who always wanted things to go just right. She balanced that with a loving heart and concern for others. If I missed choir practice or church she always called to make sure I was okay.
I will miss her company and singing next to her in choir. Please know that I will carry her memory in my heart always.
