d. January 31, 2020

Nancy Helen Pelgrim-Rader, 89, of Apopka, Florida passed away in February 2020. Ms. Pelgrim-Rader was born on February 22, 1931 in Haledon, NJ, to the late Henrietta Maria Antonetta Kop (May 13, 1905-December 17, 1997) and Abraham Pelgrim (December 13, 1904-January 6, 1972). As toddlers Nancy’s parents arrived at Ellis Island from Holland over 100 years ago. Nancy and her younger sister Marilyn Claire Pelgrim Fischer (August 27, 1932-February 4, 2013) spoke Dutch as their second language and were raised to value education. Nancy graduated from Eastern Academy High School in North Haledon, NJ and attended William Paterson College in Wayne, NJ and Ridgewood Secretarial School in Ridgewood, NJ. Nancy was a professional business woman. While she lived in New Jersey she worked at Panasonic and Matsushita Electric Corporation to name a few, and also worked security at the Sheraton Heights Hotel. In early 1997 Nancy moved from North Haledon, NJ to Apopka, FL with her mother Henrietta to escape the cold winters. She is survived by her nieces and nephew: Sandra Nanette Fischer Hill of Laguna Niguel, CA, Bonnie Lynn Fischer of NYC, NY, and from Milton, FL, Cheri Lee Fischer, Elizabeth Ann Fischer Dunn and Douglas Scott Fischer. Surviving great nephews and nieces include: Justin William Hand from Destin, FL, John Harold Hill IV from Norfolk, VA, Madeleine Pembroke Hill from Boston, MA, Lauren Elizabeth Est from Vienna, VA, and Kimberly Fischer-Pitt from The Dalles, OR. Over the years her greatest loves were her cats: Princess Pujeau La La, Lolita, Princess Habib Arabella, Pooh Bear, Cleopatra, Snake Hips, Sheba, Sheba Cats, She-She, Tuxedos Wife, Pansy’s Mommy, Princess Attila, and more. Nancy was a strong independent woman with vim, vigor, and wit and will be dearly missed. Her wishes were to be buried alongside her ancestors at the Fair Lawn Cemetery in NJ, but due to the pandemic her ashes are currently overlooking the East River in Long Island City, NY. In her memory please consider donating to your local animal shelter.
