Nelita W. Merritt, 82, of Apopka, Florida passed away on November 12, 2024. Ms. Merritt was born on October 17, 1942 in Gainesville, Florida to Hardee and Bonnie Williams. Ms. Merritt grew up and attended high school in Gainesville, Florida. After graduation she began working and found that she really enjoyed working in the insurance industry specifically Workman’s Comp. She got married in Gainesville and had 2 children.
Ms. Merritt moved to the Orlando area and stayed with the same company until she retired. During that time she became the first female Vice President of Hill Richards/ ERC a third party administrator in Longwood, Florida. She then started up her own insurance consulting business. Ms. Merritt really wasn’t too happy being retired so to fulfill her need to be busy she went into caregiving. She did that until she couldn’t work any longer due to a stroke.
Ms. Merritt is preceded in death by her son Chuck Merritt. She is survived by her daughter Cyndi (Michael) King as well as many cousins.
Ms. Merritt enjoyed going to lunch with her friends, she loved traveling. She was able to rack up over a million miles through Delta. She will be missed by her many loved ones and friends.
